A popular saying says that it takes two to tango. This saying is as true
as the gospel. If they were no buyers, definitely there will be no
sellers. After taking time to investigate the nature of examination
malpractices, that is common in our public examinations. I am of the
opinion that the major determinant are the compromising examination
supervisors. The moment the examination invigilator agrees with the
school supervisors, the malpractices will hold, but if he rejects their
offer, the malpractice will never hold. Unless if the school ignore him
to carry on, which is as good as risking centre cancellation and that of
cancelling the entire results.
The examination bodies should go for upright invigilators, who are not ready to compromise. By so doing, examination malpractice will die a natural death. These compromising invigilators, are like the proverbial ‘nothing concern Agberos with overload.’ This is because, the examination body always discover such malpractices carried out, and sanction the centre accordingly. I remember a GCE centre that faced such some years back, where no candidate broke even.
Another major contribution to examination malpractices in our schools, is the over interferences of some parents in their wards school. The private schools are always disturbed by such parents, whose interest is to put pressure on making their wards to pass by all means. This particular trend has caused many teachers packing. The school owners who always act to save their population, usually threaten teachers to see that those children pass their examinations. To avoid possible firing by the school authority, the teacher will have no option than to approach the examination invigilator to carry out malpractices.
A citadel of civility joins in corrupting morality without circumspection of its results. Parents should know that teachers are not majician. If your child does not know, he does not know. Period! Sometime, I express surprise that some parents are shifting blame to teachers knowing fully well that their wards are the architect of their own problem. Some will go as far as saying that the high school fees they paid, they don’t want to hear any poor remark about their wards. The school owners can only support you for one reason. Guess what? Profit making, of course. But at the end, who will suffer it? Arguably, the parent.
