The arrest stems from a Facebook post where Dahiru shared an audio interview with an opposition politician who accused Governor Yusuf of corruption. The politician urged federal anti-corruption agencies to probe a scandal involving Novomed Pharmaceuticals rather than relying on the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCCAC).
This post coincided with the Kano anti-corruption agency’s recent detainment of five individuals, including Garba Kwankwaso, a nephew of former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, linked to an alleged multi-billion-naira drug procurement scam. Kwankwaso, managing director of Novomed Pharmaceuticals, is accused of breaching public procurement laws by conspiring to secure a drug supply contract for local government areas.
In addition to the post about Governor Yusuf, Dahiru also reportedly shared an audio program criticizing the reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, for his perceived lavish lifestyle despite presenting himself as a champion of the poor.
According to Premium Times, Dahiru was secretly arraigned before Magistrate Court 24 in Gyadi Gyadi, Kano, on Friday. Magistrate Ummah Kurawa ordered his remand in a correctional facility pending a bail hearing set for September 3.
