Oyo State 2024 Budget: Gov Makinde Inches Towards Fulfilling Education Funding Pledge, Says Special Adviser On Education Intervention, Hon Tiamy.

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Education Intervention, Hon Oloye Suraj Abiodun Tiamy has lauded Oyo state Governor, His Excellency Engineer Seyi Makinde as the allocation to education in the 2024 Budget Proposal shows Gov Makinde has taken a giant stride towards fulfilling his administration's pledge to increase expenditure on education intervention in 2024.


Hon Tiamy gave this commendation while speaking with the newsmen shortly after the budget presentation by the Governor at the State Assembly Complex in Ibadan on Tuesday. 

In the meantime, Governor Seyi Makinde today presented a budget of N434.2 billion for 2024 to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

According to Governor Makinde, the budget is made up of N222.3 billion for capital expenditure, and N211.8 billion for recurrent expenditure.

Presenting the budget tagged: “Budget of Economic Recovery”, the governor said the capital expenditure is 2.4 per cent higher than the recurrent expenditure.

He added that the 2024 budget was estimating an increased Internally Generated Revenue of N72 billion with an average of N6 billion monthly.

GLAD TIDINGS NEWS reports that Education got the highest share of the budget with N90.6 billion or 20.8 per cent of the budget, followed by Infrastructure which gets N74.3 billion or 17.1 per cent of the appropriation bill.

Tiamy said, "It is a known fact that education is the best legacy any government could leave behind as that is the basis of human existence.

"And it is very pertinent to appreciate His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde for ensuring that Education gets highest share of the budget to make our state an enviable one as far as Education is concerned and it is our hope that that would bring recovery into the education sector in the state", Hon Tiamy said.

Meanwhile, the Governor’s pronouncement elicited commendations and hope in the sector as Educationists and other stakeholders described the step as a welcome development.
