Special Adviser To Gov Makinde On Education Intervention, Hon Tiamy Reiterates Commitment To Quality Education At Students' Representative Summit

 


The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Education Intervention, Honourable Oloye Suraj Abiodun Tiamy has reaffirmed present administration’s commitment to the improvement of the education sector in the state.

He expressed the readiness of the state to provide necessary support in the areas of education infrastructure and the recruitment of more teachers in order to improve the quality of education.

Tiamy made this known while feeding questions from the newsmen shortly at the Maiden Edition of the Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin Students Legislative Summit held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan on Wednesday 24th April, 2024.

Tiamy said, Makinde's administration had recruited about six thousand active teachers and that more will still be recruited to improve the quality of education in the state.

He said: “This administration believes quality education breeds youth potentialities and that's why you heard His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde himself mentioned that he would leave the office for someone younger than him, that's the leadership quality of the highest peak.

“Actually, this administration puts together a roadmap for accelerated development of Oyo State and focused on four major pillars – Health, education, security, and expansion of our economy through agribusiness and development of our infrastructure which all of these center on youth development," he said

Hon Tiamy also highlighted many achievements of Seyi Makinde-led administration in Education sector.



According to his statement:  "This present administration has provided better funding for the education sector by raising its budgetary expenditure to 20.88 percent and increased subvention to tertiary institutions in the state by 100 percent.  Other giant strides include the upgrading of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to University of Education and ensuring that Oyo State became the sole owner of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

"In addition, LAUTECH was expanded to a multi-campus status starting with the Faculty of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, Iseyin Campus, and the state university was increased from one to three and lots more.

"Furthermore, the government ensured increased access to quality education at primary and secondary levels for all eligible Oyo State children by 10 percent; encouragement of private sector to provide quality and affordable education in Oyo State; provision of scholarships for brilliant students to encourage competition in public schools; pursuance the enactment of an enabling law to keep school-age children out of the street during school hours; improvement of teachers’ quality through adequate training and development; provision of adequate pedagogical resources for effective teaching; provision of adequate furniture for students and staff;supply of equipment for science and laboratories," Tiamy reiterated.

Meanwhile, some of the dignitaries at the event included Gov Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, represented by a former Reps member,  Hon Golu Timothy, Speakers of the Osun and Ekiti House of Assemblies,  Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun and Rt. Hon Adeoye Aribasoye, respectively; Minister of State for Youth, Ayodele Olawande; Soun of Ogbomoso land, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye; APC national youth leader, Dayo Israel, Oyo State House of Assembly members, amongst others.
