BREAKING: DSS Releases Governor Makinde’s Social Media Critic, Idris Animasaun After 7-Hour Detention

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Idris Animashaun, a social media personality known for speaking truth to power after he was grilled for about seven hours at their office in Ibadan, Oyo State.

On Monday, it was reported that Idris had been invited by the DSS, asking him to appear on Tuesday.

A source who described Animasaun as a “strong critic of the Oyo State Governor,” informed SaharaReporters that Idris was invited by DSS for criticising the recent takeover of community open spaces by the government”.

Animashaun, active on Facebook and X, has been vocal about poor governance in Nigeria, particularly in Oyo State. His recent posts challenged Governor Seyi Makinde's assertion that President Bola Tinubu's administration is solely responsible for the country's economic woes.

He accused Makinde of sponsoring posts on newspapers, social media and blogs to launder his image and using his media aide to threaten him with the DSS.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Animasaun announced that he had been invited by the DSS to report at their office by 10 am on Tuesday.

It was learned that Idris was accompanied to the DSS office by some other activists, including Kayode Babayomi, African Action Congress Chairman in the state.

A source privy to the incident told our correspondent that Idris was held for more than six hours by the DSS and was told that he was invited because of a petition submitted against him in July by the Chairman of Oyo State Agricultural Agency.

“The DSS said it was the Chairman of Oyo State Agricultural Agency that filed a petition against him in July and they complained that Idris is using his social media accounts to bring Makinde’s government down. This was the reason he was invited. He was asked to sign an undertaking with his lawyer,” the source told the Press.
